March at the JSMQG was all about shamrocks. Our block lotto participants made two each of a shamrock block, one for the winner Brigit C, and one for a donation quilt for Team Shamrock. Team Shamrock has an annual fundraiser in August at Bar A in Lake Como. For the past two years we’ve been donating a quilt for their gift auction. Last year that event netted over $40,000 for Tunnel to Towers and we are always happy to lend a hand. This year their event happens to fall on our meeting night and our members voted unanimously to attend it in lieu of a meeting. Stay tuned for pictures from that night.
Preparing to assemble this for Team Shamrock!April will be all about tulips! So cute!!Linda D schooled us about starch this month. Every month we have an instructional portion to our meetings. Linda demonstrated different methods of starching and different products, including how to prepare your own starch from vodka. Who knew! She also showed us examples of what happens when starched fabric is washed in different water and dryer temperatures. So interesting. And if that wasn’t enough, Linda also demonstrated how to use freezer paper for appliqué projects. It was a great night for learning, thank you LindaA new segment of our meeting nights, I’ve asked Julia, our host and owner of Old Spool Sewing Studio, to take a few minutes to highlight new fabric and products to the shop. Not only did she show us this cool vintage inspired seed packet panel and coordinating prints she had a few samples made up of things you could use them for. So many of us were inspired by that the fabric was flying out the door after the meeting!
And as always, show and tell.
Sherre M showed us four versions of the same quilt And she still had time to make one more quilt. Julia made a wallet!Susan made a lovely heart table runner. Deb H made a soft book for her grandson from a panel she bought at Old SpoolMary Jane was so busy selling raffle tickets she had no time to sew, so instead she shared this book about the infamous Red and White quilt show at the Armory in NYC. Thanks MaryJane!Nellie had two wall hangings she shared with us!
