I am not sure how it got to be almost October and I’m just now sitting down to recap August, but here I am! Our August meeting brought our resident art teacher, Brooke, to talk to us about none other than color. Color, it’s all about color when you’re a quilter, isn’t it?! Learning to use the color wheel when you’re designing a quilt and choosing fabrics, secondary and tertiary colors and all that fun stuff is what Brooke taught us along with examples, but in the end she said use whatever you like because there are no rules in quilting and that sounds about right to me!!
Even the dress she chose to wear was an example of how color works together. This lovely art teacher will have a new name next time we see her, Miss C will be Mrs. P and we could not be happier for her ❤️
Lots of business to discuss this month including our ongoing efforts to supply quilts for our community, and planning for our third annual retreat in November. Lots of good stuff happening in our ever growing guild. Let’s now turn our attention to the fun stuff, what our members have been up to!
If you shop at Old Spool you have probably met our very own Kiersten. Here she’s showing us the shop sample she made for an upcoming class. If you don’t shop at Old Spool, you’re missing out on the most upbeat quilt shop around!Here’s Deirdre (also works at Old Spool) showing us the absolute most cutest little bunny cottage she also made for the shop from a panel. All the little bunnies and their accessories are on the panel and it’s just adorable for that little (or big) creature lover in your life! Show of hands who ran to get one after the meeting 🙋♀️I may as well just highlight all of our members who happen to be working at Old Spool. This is Camille, she teaches a lot of classes at the shop and this one is upcoming.And a cross body bag you can learn from Camille as well, check out the website!Lots of oohs and ahhs for this beauty that Denise made. All foundation paper pieced, nicely done Denise!!Lauren literally brought the house down with this show stopping appliqué quilt and its most excellent backing choice! A true work of art by another talented art teacher amongst us. Bravo Lauren!Long time member Debbie L pulled a few things out of that bag she made including this modern quilt!Gorgeous quilt by Joann! And that bunny cottage making yet another appearance!Irene pulled a couple of quilts out of that bag she made too!Lovely to see our friend Adele and her beautiful work too!And look at Mary C embracing her modern side with this gorgeous quilt, nice work Mary!Susan cannot be stopped, she loves making those bows and we love seeing each one she comes up with!!Wedding quilt Katie made for a family member, just beautiful!Old Spool’s newest teacher, Sherre with just a few of the samples she’s been making for her classes. Do not sleep on these. Sherre is a certified Stripology teacher, the ruler that simplifies fabric cutting and these are only a handful of the quilts you can make. Barbara has been captivating us with her modern textile art since day one!Mary Jane, besides her quilting she happens to be a member of the New Jersey Button Society. She and her sister travelled to New England for a button exhibit and she brought these in to show us.The entire guild does not work at Old Spool, but Marti does teach there and there’s a class to make this cute witch hat she’s modeling!And a few more things Marti managed to whip up!
