Maybe you were wondering where we’ve been? Or not! Post quilt exhibit at the Belmar Arts Center we’ve been taking some time to breathe and do some selfish sewing. Some of us are participating in a round robin of sorts where the member made a block or piece to start a quilt. Every month it gets passed to someone else and they make something to add to it. It’s been super fun and at the end of it all we will each have what we need to make a complete quilt, made for the most part by friends. It’s going to be great to see everyone’s finished project and we’ve all learned a lot in the process.
One thing about being in a guild is the wealth of knowledge that we possess and get to share with one another. It has always been a traditional part of the meeting to have an instructional portion and it truly never disappoints. In the beginning of the year our Program Coordinator puts out a survey of basically two questions, what do you want to learn and what are you willing to teach? We’ve covered so many topics ranging from different types of starches to the most complicated of stitching methods and everything in between and there’s always more to learn. In the past two months alone, Brigit gave us some really good insight into ways to visibly mend quilts that have been well loved by their recipient

And Virginia educated us all on the much coveted vintage Singer machines including how to service them yourself, along with sharing some eye opening facts about these beloved machines. Never leave your bobbin case unattended!!

We’ve been sewing garments and quilts, bag making, embroidering and knitting and we love seeing everyone’s work Everyone and everything is welcomed and embraced. I’ll just leave some examples right here for you to enjoy as well!

That’s a whole lot of creativity! See you soon!
