Community Outreach Challenge

Every year the international Modern Quilt Guild, our momma guild, holds its convention in February. The 2024 event will take place in Raleigh NC. An integral part of this event is the QuiltCon Community Outreach challenge. Guilds are challenged to construct a quilt using fabric and design parameters dictated by the Modern Quilt Guild. This years theme is symmetry and at least three and up to all of these colors can be used on the quilt front. When the show is over the quilt will be donated to a local charitable organization for fundraising. It’s always fun to see what the guilds come up with.

Last weekend, while Ophelia wreaked havoc on the Jersey Shore, our members gathered at Old Spool Sewing Studio to get to stitching. We call these days Sew-Ins. They’re the best days where we come together sometimes, like last Saturday, when we have a group project at hand or where we just all do our own thing. It’s a day of sewing, chatting, laughing and eating. Always eating! So we sewed in while Ophelia did her thing. We employed a quilting technique for our entry that probably half of the group had never done before. So we did what we do best and we taught each other! And we sewed the day away and it was fabulous!! Now I can’t reveal the quilt yet, but I can tell you that one of our newest members designed it based on a painting that inspired her. The big reveal will be coming soon and this might be our best one yet.

This was an all hands on deck project, literally.
The level of concentration!
One half of the dream team of Brandy and MaryEllen hard at work.
Everyone hard at work.

I hope you’ll stop back soon to see the finished quilt before it leaves for North Carolina!
